Job Description
DEPARTMENT: Kitchen REPORTS
TO: Executive Chef
POSITION: Kitchen Steward (Dishwasher/Potwasher)
JOB SUMMARY: To assist with proper
functioning of a fine dining kitchen by performing sanitation, maintenance
tasks and performing basic culinary skills and tasks.
ACOUNTABILITIES: Responsible for proper cleaning and sanitizing of the kitchen area
including dishes, glassware and flatware, pots, pans, appliances, equipment,
surfaces, floors and also to assist with basic food preparation.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Some high school
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System Certificate
(WHMIS)
- Emergency First Aid and CPR recommended
- National Sanitation Certificate or equivalent recommended
- Familiar with dish washing equipment an asset
- Familiar with cleaning chemicals an asset
- On the job training provided
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:
- Must supply own uniform
- Must supply own black, non-slip work shoes
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for entirety of shift
- Must be able to work in a fast paced fine dining kitchen
- Just be able to lift up to 23 kg (50 lb)
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to prioritize quickly
- Must be effective at listening to, understanding and clarifying
information
- Must be able to convey information promptly and correctly
- Must be able to communicate information correctly and
effectively to co-workers
- Must be able to work in a fast paced fine dining kitchen
DUTIES & FUNCTIONS
- Clean and sanitize kitchen
including work surfaces, cupboards, storage areas, appliances and
equipment
- Remove kitchen garbage and
trash
- Sweep and mop floors
- Operate dishwashers to wash
dishes, glassware, and flatware
- Wash other items by hand
- Place dishes in storage area
- Scour pots and pans
- Sanitize pots and pans
- Clean and polish flatware
- Clean and sanitize items such
as dishwasher mats, carts and waste disposal units
- Wash, peel and cut vegetables
and fruit
- Assist with miscellaneous
areas of the kitchen
- Work with others
- Job task planning and
organization
- Other duties as assigned
